About GnomeGrown Microgreens

Hi, I’m the owner, grower, and your neighbor behind GnomeGrown Microgreens! Our small, indoor, vertical local farm in South Charlotte is all about helping families like yours easily add fresh, nutrient-rich greens to their meals.

This journey began as a hobby—a way to combine my love of growing plants with a curiosity about healthy eating. As I learned more about the incredible health benefits of microgreens, I knew I wanted to share them with my community. Microgreens are simple to use and perfect for anyone (even those of us who aren’t exactly chefs!). Just sprinkle them on a sandwich, toss them in a salad, or add them to a smoothie.

I’m so excited to share my passion with you and help make healthy eating simple, fresh, and fun!

When I’m not nurturing microgreens or working my regular day job, I’m a nature lover and an animal advocate—and an empty nester with a kid at NC State. In the not-too-distant future, I plan to start a small hobby farm where I can grow even more healthy food, continue fostering homeless dogs, and expand my efforts to rescue farm animals that need a loving sanctuary.

Please email me if you have questions or comments. I'd love to hear from you :)

Balancing freshness & sustainability

As a small business owner, and your neighbor, finding ways to take care of the environment, however small, is an important part of our values.

Thoughtful packaging

We put a lot of love into growing your microgreens, and we want to make sure they reach you as fresh as possible. Right now, we use a mix of PLA (plant-based compostable containers) and PET (recyclable plastic containers). Each has its pros and cons:

  • PLA is made from plants and breaks down in industrial composting facilities, but those aren't very convenient to our neighborhood.

  • PET is recyclable and helps keep your greens fresh longer, but if it’s not properly recycled, it can stick around in landfills for a long time.

There’s no perfect answer yet, but we’re always learning and striving to make the best choices we can.

Reduce and reuse
To offset any negative impact to the environment, a little anyway, we offer 2 ways to reduce packaging waste.

  1. When we deliver you orders, we can collect your used microgreen containers and do a bulk drop off at the one the full service recycling centers in Charlotte.

  2. We offer an optional system that reuses your containers. When we deliver your order we will gladly collect your previously used containers, sanitize them, and put your name on them, and use them for your next order.

Looking ahead: Other reusable packaging options

Another packaging option for our microgreens is reusable glass jars. They’d help cut down on waste and could be a great way to keep your greens crisp and fresh. We’re still figuring out the details, but we love the thought of a system that’s better for you and the planet.

We’d love to hear your thoughts! If you have suggestions or feedback, let’s chat—together, we can make small changes that add up to a big difference.
